C. John Watts III, one of the principals and founding partners of Renaissance Financial Partners of North Carolina, LLC, is one of the most experienced investment and financial advisors in the Catawba Valley region.

John moved to Hickory in the summer of 1973 with First Citizens Bank. Since then, John has opened and initiated 4 different offices in the Financial Services Industry, to include I.D.S.; Edward D. Jones & Co.; A.G. Edwards & Sons, and now, Renaissance Financial Partners of N.C., LLC. His career in the financial services business spans almost 40 years. John is a graduate of the U.N.C. Chapel Hill, where he majored in U.S. History. His education at UNC was interrupted by 3 years in the U.S. Army. After Basic Training @ Ft. Bragg and Advanced Training @ Ft. Gordon, Ga., he served one year in Vietnam and 18 months in Frankfurt, Germany. John also taught U.S. & World History at Vance Senior H.S., in Henderson, N.C. for two years. He coached Football, Track & Wrestling as well while he was at Vance H.S.

Recently, John was presented the William A. Lenoir Alumni Award from the Foothills Carolina Club, the 4 county chapter of the UNC Alumni Association. The award is presented to an alumnus of UNC who has demonstrated outstanding community service. In his 40 year history in Hickory, John has served on a variety of Non-Profit Boards, both appointed and elected. He was elected to the Hickory City Schools Board and also to the Hickory City Council. He served as the Board Chairman for the Hickory Community Theatre Board on two different occasions; Board Chairman for Catawba Valley Arts Council; Board Chairman for Catawba Valley Red Cross Chapter; and also Board Chairman for the Catawba County Partnership for Children. He also has served on the Church Council for Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he also has taught Sunday School on several occasions.

John’s perspective on life is to live it to its fullest. He has been married to Celeste for 44 years, come April 12th. He has two daughters, Beth, who has worked with him as one of his partners for over 12 year, and Kate, who’s husband Todd, has worked with him as his other partner for 3 ½ years.

John has been recognized, and earned awards, as an outstanding advisor by many of the companies or affiliations he has worked with in his 40 year career. His perspective in all that time has never changed. He believes that the client is the most important part of the business and that everything should be done with that concept in mind. He has opened accounts for individuals who wanted to save $25.00 a month to investors who have put $250,000 and more in his care. John says that the most important thing he does for his clients is listen. Listen to what their current situation is, and listen to what they would like to see happen with their assets in years to come. When asked about retirement for himself, John simply says he has been blessed for many years. As long as he can, he plans to share those blessings with current clients and future clients in whatever manner possible.
